Votes For Women

I read this article, A Celebration of Helen Crawfurd , in Bella Caledonia yesterday and was surprised to learn a piece of history about the peace activist women of Glasgow who fought against injustice and inequality and in particular against unfair rent rises while their men were off fighting in the 1914 – 18 Great War.

We were never taught this in school.

I was inspired by the story, and thinking also of their fight for suffrage, I made this painting today:

Votes for Women“, Acrylics on paper, 42x59cm.

Since today is International Women’s Day and I dedicate this to the women in my life: Jacqueline, Sharon, and little Amy.
